Reach Out, Make a Difference This Christmas

 Shiny red kettles and sounds of those “silver bells” proclaiming “it’s Christmas time in the city,” can only mean one thing; it’s that time of the year where you can find the Salvation Army in front of many of your favorite stores. The Home Ownership Industry will join forces starting this Wednesday, 12/4/2013, to make an immense difference with their kettle involvement for the Salvation Army. Industry members will be at 170 red kettles in 120 Phoenix area locations. You can find them in front of these stores: Fry’s, Safeway, Dillard’s, Nordstrom, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Bashas’, Big Lots, Macy’s, J C Penney, Walgreens and Hobby Lobby. On Real Estate Wednesdays (December 4, 11 & 18), we will be dedicated to collecting donations for Christmas Day dinners and social service programs in our local communities throughout the coming year.

The red Christmas Kettle concept was unveiled for the first time in 1891 in San Francisco, CA. That first kettle was a crab pot. There was a depression that caused a mass job loss and this affected many families. A Salvation Army officer decided to take charge of the despair and began collecting money on a pier with a goal of providing dinner for 1,000 of the city’s poorest individuals. He gathered enough coins to meet that goal and by 1900, the program became nationwide.

This tradition has remained strong and true for over 100 years. Let’s set a new record this year and show the world that one helping hand can change humankind. Join us for this historic event. Your help will improve the lives of your neighbors in need.
